2004 was our first Christmas in Dubai and it wasn't all that prevalent, other than the odd tacky decoration in the malls and available for sale in some shops.While shopping in City Centre on 18th Dec 2004, I had an Emirati girl grab my arm and ask me if it was Christmas on that day, and it really brought to me the realisation that it wasn't a well known event outside of countries where Christianity is outwardly celebrated.
Nowadays in Dubai, it's Christmas gone crazy as they try to outdo other countries with their efforts.
The tree above was at the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and we were rather bemused to see one at all, let alone the hotel staff who serenaded us with Christmas carols during the cocktail party!
