Over the road, in L.A.

I think this is the L.A. river and maybe the 710 freeway? I'm not sure if the L.A. river even goes that way, but it does look like that freeway is headed toward a port - Long Beach or L.A.? If you're wondering why that river - and, yes, it really is a river - looks so weird it's because some genius in the middle of last century thought it'd be a good idea to cement the river in. Why? I have no clue. It may look like nothing much here in the summer, but there are plenty of idiots who, during the January/February rain storms, decide that body-boarding in the rapids of a concrete river is a good idea.

  1. p.s. kids, if you've seen the movie "grease," the concrete walls of the l.a. river is where the t-birds and the bad guys drag race and where sandy has her bad girl epitome ("tell me about it, stud" soon follows).

at least the music from grease is a major improvement over the sopranos theme that's been stuck in my head.

  2. Love the design of the road that goes over the river...cat's cradle.

So, why is the concrete at the end of the river visible? Is it not completely filled or is the rest of it i.e. the blue parts just a reflection of the sky?

  5. the river is actually flowing out into the pacific, which is in the upper left hand corner. so, the more watery part is the part that is closer to the ocean.
