Seen in Malaga: I could hardly believe this obtrusive sculpture in catholic conservative (yes, notice the lady on the right looking the other way...) southern Spain which really made me laugh. I'm totally into modern art, but somehow I prefer Michelangelo's David and his display of masculinity to this ugly totem pole by an artist who obviously wanted us to know that this thing is male :)

Virile art in Spain
Seen in Malaga: I could hardly believe this obtrusive sculpture in catholic conservative (yes, notice the lady on the right looking the other way...) southern Spain which really made me laugh. I'm totally into modern art, but somehow I prefer Michelangelo's David and his display of masculinity to this ugly totem pole by an artist who obviously wanted us to know that this thing is male :)

ReplyDeleteReminds me of some of the New Zealand Maori carvings where they insist on including over-sized appendages - especially on the male figures!
