Deep Contrast

Chiaruscuro: (kyärōskOO'rō) [Ital.,=light and dark], term once applied to an early method of printing woodcuts from several blocks and also to works in black and white or monotone. Today it is used loosely to refer to the distribution of light and dark in a painting...

Taken at Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin, Germany - the sarcophagus of Frederick Wilhem III in the most beautiful mausoleum that I have ever been in.

Rembrandt was a master at chiaruscuro.

  3. It was.

There are 4 sacophagi lying in the mausoleum - Frederick, Frederick's wife, and, either his uncle or father, and his wife.

The sense of peace is almost liquid - it's so heavy in the air inside the room.
